Gianni Buonomo Vintners Continues to Impress on National Stage
San Diego CA – February 3 – San Diego winery Gianni Buonomo Vintners just returned home after entering its wines in the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Gianni came back with two Gold Medals and two Silver Medals.
With over 7000 wine entries, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is easily the largest competition in the world featuring only American produced wines. Over 60 experts within the media, trade, hospitality and education industries gather annually to judge these wines.
Gianni Buonomo’s 2015 Avennio was honored with a Gold Medal. It is a Rhone-style blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre made with grapes sourced from Washington state and brought to their Newport Avenue winery to vinify and barrel age. Under their second label, Gianni California, the 2015 Barbera also took home a Gold Medal. Grapes for the Barbera were sourced from a single vineyard near Placerville CA.
The 2015 Sangiovese and 2015 Blaufränkisch each won Silver Medals.
Asked to explain why his wines consistently win at this competition, winemaker Keith Rolle had this to say. “ I really just stick with fundamental wine making and go with what’s been successful. Over the years I like to think that I’ve developed my own individual style of wine. Of course, I’m thrilled that judges at the Chronicle competition love it and that the whole Peninsula community loves it too.”
Gianni Buonomo will be hosting a Gold Medal Celebration Dinner on Saturday, February 22 at their OB winery. Guests will be able to enjoy a glass of each of these Gold Medal winning wines and enjoy a fabulous dinner presented by Zafferano Catering. Tickets are $55.00 ($45.00 wine club members)
