Gianni Buonomo Vintners hosts a fun-filled (and educational) wine and cheese pairing presented by
Sommelier Maryse Gagné and Cheese Monger Robert Graff
Maryse Gagné, a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada joined Team Gianni in August 2017 as an Enology Intern under the direction of award-winning wine maker, Keith Rolle. This has given her the opportunity to participate in all facets of wine making while applying her wine service and hospitality expertise in the tasting room.
Joining Maryse is Robert Graff, Venissimo’s Cheese Specialist (www.venissimo.com). Robert has worked with Venissimo for nine years and runs the Venissimo Cheese Academy which hosts events and pairings throughout San Diego County. Venissimo Cheese has delighted the senses with cheese education and products from around the globe since 2004.
This lively and interactive evening will highlight 3 award-winning wines with 6 carefully selected cheeses. Your hosts will cover the history of the cheeses and teach you the tricks of the trade when it comes to pairing wine and cheese for your own events.
Thursday’s special collection of globally inspired pairings (including cheese from Holland, Spain and beyond) are made of milk from sheep, cow and goat and offer rich and unique flavors and textures.
The featured wines include the GOLD MEDAL winning 2013 Blaufränkisch. Often referred to as the Pinot of the East, grapes for this Blaufrankisch were harvested in Washington state and brought to San Diego for vinification, barrel aging and bottling.
Also featured will be the 2014 Charbono. This wine just won DOUBLE GOLD at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Grapes were harvested in El Dorado County CA before being brought to San Diego.
The final wine of the evening will be the 2014 Avennio. A recent winner of a SILVER MEDAL at the Hilton Head International Wine Competition, this Rhone-style blend is comprised of 70% Syrah and 30% Mourvèdre.
